14:00-17:00

LMU, Department Psychology, Leopoldstr. 13, Room 1305 & online via Zoom (hybrid)

Workshop

In this workshop, we'll explore how to write like science communicators by developing creative hooks and analogies, and using engaging language. Astrid will focus on narrative structure and explore several storytelling templates. The workshop features multiple writing exercises, and after three hours, you’ll have a draft of your first SHARP blog article. To get the most from (peer) feedback, we recommend attending the workshop in person.

The workshop has a maximum capacity of 30 participants. Members of the Science Communication Working Group will be given priority when places are allocated. If we receive more registrations than places are available, we will get in touch.

For planning purposes, please register via the following link to our workshop and indicate whether you intend to participate in person or online:

If you are unable to attend after registering, please cancel your registration so that your place can be offered to someone else.

We look forward to welcoming you to these events.

Preliminary workshop program

Part 1: BUILDING YOUR SCICOMM TOOLBOX: STORYTELLING

We’ll look at different storytelling templates and tools and, through short exercises, apply them.

Part 2: WRITING

You all master academic writing, but writing for other audiences requires different skills. We’ll dive into language use and how to structure your blog post.

Part 3: VISUALS

We’ll select visuals for your draft story and look at the different requirements for a website compared to a LinkedIn post.

Part 4: PEER FEEDBACK

Peers can always help you improve your texts: where does their mind wander off, was their anything unclear? In this workshop you’ll benefit from the feedback and creativity of your peers.
